Modern Women Of Wisdom Condemn Attack On "Alleged Woman Thief"

We the members of Modern Women of Wisdom Organization an all Female Advocacy Group condemn vehemently the attack on a woman who was alleged to have stolen an amount of 1,100 Ghana cedis.

The video which has gone viral on social media has brought shame to womanhood. Although we do not condone any behavior that involves stealing, we cannot accept the manhandling of women in public.

What proceeded after the woman was caught stealing is something that has now become commonplace.

The woman was beaten and stripped naked in public while a bunch of horny men proceeded to sexually manhandle her.

As an advocacy group that creates a listening space for women, we are just getting tired of 'these men', these higher humans who have decided to put the law into their own hands.

These same men are the thieves at night, loitering around shopping centres to smartly snatch people's mobile phones or smartly sell bars of soap to ignorant citizens as mobile phones.

Yet, these men are the same people who will catch a thief first because they are experts in the game and God help her if she is a female.

The lady in question was caught stealing, And so what? What happened to our Police Stations?

These sex hungry looking men will do anything to molest a lady at the slightest provocation.

They even went to the extent of inserting their hands into her private part. How barbaric? Is that the punishment for stealing in Ghana our Motherland?

The National Commission on Civic Education must improve their performance by educating the public on their civic responsibilities. Instant justice is gradually gaining roots in this country and the earlier we address it, the better for all of us .

We therefore call on the Ghana Police service, the Gender Ministry and Civil Society groups to condemn this barbaric act by bringing these perpetrators to book.
