A leading supplier of furniture, K. Asenso Ltd, has donated multi-purpose office furniture to the Pamela Bridgewater Project’s kayayei resettlement center and clinic for needy girls and market women in Kumasi.

Speaking at a ceremony to present the furniture worth Gh¢8,000 at the company’s head office in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Kwabena Asenso said “there is no better thing than extending support to the head potters”.

He appealed to Ghanaians to show compassion to the kayayeis, whom he described as “nice and hardworking girls”, and he also called on corporate bodies to emulate his example by donating to the girls and their vulnerable children.

The Project Director of the Pamela Bridgewater Project, Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, thanked K. Asenso Co Ltd for their kind gesture.

He gave explanations about the trafficking unit of the kayayei center and how useful it would be in tracking traffickers to ensure that their nefarious activities are checked and the traffickers brought to justice.

He noted that the popular Kejetia market and lorry terminal in the heart of Kumasi has for many years served as a transit point for the trafficking of girls from the northern parts of Ghana to Accra to work as kayayeis.

The Pamela Bridgewater Project has for the past years provided future and welfare to disadvantaged girls through education, advocacy, protection, and research.
