UK-based school promotes reading among pupils in Kumasi

A UK-based school is partnering a local institution, Vicande School, to reverse the trend of waning reading culture among pupils at Asuoyeboah in Kumasi.

King’s School of Chester is providing books and other learning materials for a newly built library to serve schools and the community.

An official of King’s School of Chester, Gordon Oduro told Luv News at a short handing-over ceremony that “the gesture is not only for the school but for the whole community, and they seek to imbibe the reading habit into the youth.”

He says the UK-based school will extend the donation to other schools and their communities in the subsequent months.

Gordon Oduro was accompanied by Susana Smith to represent King’s School of Chester in the UK.

The headmaster of Vicande School, Patrick Adusei, says the books will go a long way to motivate the students and the youth within the community.

He maintained that Social Media and the internet are swaying the youth from reading and thus rendering the students lazy and shallow-minded.

He is hopeful the community, especially, the youth would make use of the education materials.

There have been concerns about the addiction of children to the internet and cell phones for purposes other than learning.

The gesture is expected to change that trend.
