Prof Nantogmah picks N/R Council of State nomination form

Accra, Jan. 23, GNA - Professor Samuel Yakubu Nantogmah, (BO-NA) chief of Bogu in the Northern Region has picked nomination forms to contest for the Council of State membership Election slated for February 9.

The Electoral Commission's timetable indicates that nomination opens from January 20 to 26 and the election on February 9.

Prof Yakubu Nantogmah intends to support President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's government with the traditional, professional, social-economic balance expertise for the accelerated development.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Prof Yakubu Nantogmah emphasis the critical role the Council plays in the governance structure of the country stressing that 'It is the store house of ideas for the Government'.

He said the 1992 Constitution mandates the Council of State under Article 89 to counsel the President in the performance of his functions.

'The Council is required to consider and advise the President or any other authority in respect of any appointment which is required by the constitution or any other law to be made in accordance with the advice of, or in consultation with the Council,' Prof Yakubu Nantogmah stated.

He also explained that as part of the functions of the Council, it is mandated upon request or on its own initiative to consider and make recommendations on any matter being considered or dealt with by the President, a Minister of State, or any other authority established by the Constitution.

'With the vast experience I have gain over the years both in public and private life as well as serving as a traditional leader, I believe I have the capacity to provide the role as mandated by the Constitution to help the President govern the country,' he said.

The Profile of the Council of State aspirants obtained by the Ghana News Agency in Accra indicates that Bo-Na Yakubu Nantogmah between 1983 - 85 obtained Higher Education Administration from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA

From 1979 - 82 Ph.D. Physical Education, the University of Iowa, - Concentration: Curriculum Design, Educational Administration, and Motor Learning.

Others are: 1977 - 79 M.A. Physical Education University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa - Concentration: Curriculum Design, Motor Behavior, and Adapted Physical Education.

Bo-Na Yakubu Nantogmah also in 1987 obtained a Texas Teacher Certificate in Health and Physical Education and in 1981 obtained the Iowa Teacher's Certificate again Health and Physical Education.

Between 1965 - 69 the Council of State Aspirant obtained Diploma in Physical Education from University of Cape Coast and was certified to teach and coach at grade school and college levels.

Bo-Na Yakubu Nantogmah also between 1960 - 63 obtained the Ghana Teacher's Certificate - General Studies and Physical Education from the Government Teachers' College Tamale, certified to teach grades 1 - 10.

Prof Yakubu Nantogmah in 2016 was a Government Appointee into the Savelugu-Nanton District Assembly; and a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
