Missing Man: Police begin investigations, search for Tema Hospital patient

The Tema Police say they have started investigations into the case of a 63-year-old who mysteriously disappeared after being sent to the Tema General Hospital over a week ago.

ASP Juliana Obeng Tema Police PRO revealed that two of the nurses who were on duty on the night of January 10 have been invited for questioning and their statements have been taken.

The family of nine is blaming the hospital for negligence in the case of Ruben Anyasu.

Mr Anyasu, a retired accountant, was on December 31, 2016 sent to the Tema General Hospital for treatment.

His wife Grace Anyasu, 53, in an interview with Joy News' Joseph Ackay-Blay said he was rushed to the Hospital when he started vomiting and defecating.

"We were told to purchase some medicines which we did and we were later told that his sugar level was high. One of his children paid him a visit and realised on arrival that his things were there in the room but he was nowhere to be found.

"He asked the nurses who said they saw him around not long ago but he could not be found anywhere. Each nurse we engage, we were told to hold on a bit," she said.

Kingsley Anyasu, one of his children, told the reporter his poor health did not affect his cognitive abilities. According to the wife of the missing patient, each time they visited Ruben, he engaged them in conversation.

"I was informed by son [Kingsley] who was there the day before that the doctor told him his father would be released the next day," she said.

Kingsley said his father's condition the last time he saw him was that of a sick person who was recuperating.

William, 26, another son of Ruben said "we spoke to the administrators and nurses about my father's disappearance and they kept saying they are on it and left it at that. The police also told us they can't go searching for our dad."

The administrator of the Tema Regional Hospital, Bortey Abraham and Head of Clinical Centre, Augustine Quarshie won't speak to Joy News on record except to say the hospital is carrying out its own investigations.

But ASP Obeng said, "We have requested for the hospital authorities to give us a report that would be part of the investigations and we have given them a timeline to submit that report so we can start investigations at our end."

She told Dzifa Bampoh on Joy FM's Newsnite Programme Thursday:

"We have also been able to get a picture of the victim and so on our various notices, across the region of the country, we have been able to get in touch with our colleagues to help us in case they come across someone like Mr Anyasu around their vicinity."

For now, no one at the Tema General Hospital would be charged with any crime, until the police investigations reveals that due to Mr A or Mrs B acts of commission or omission something happened to Mr Anyasu.
