The capital of the Ashanti region, Kumasi, is virtually ‘dead’ over the directive banning almost all business activities in the city.

Checks by Citi Business News indicate that traders in major suburbs in the region are complying with the directive.

The move also follows the conclusion of the burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Shops in Adum, Kumasi central market as well as other very vibrant market centres in Kumasi are all closed.

Citi New's Lauretta Tima reports that there is hardly any movement as residents mourn the death of the late Asantehemaa.

Meanwhile transport operators who ply the Accra Kumasi route are recording low patronage at the various stations in Accra.

The operators attribute this to the ban on trading activities by the Asantehene.

They are however hopeful business will return to normal after the funeral.
