Asante Presbytery meeting opens in Kumasi

Kumasi, April 3, GNA-Ghanaians have been urged to eschew bribery and corruption, laziness, tribalism, theft and other irresponsible behaviour that impede development.

They should also be law-abiding, respect the authority of the state and honour their civic responsibility of paying all their taxes.

Rev Otuo Acheampong, Chairman of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, gave the advice at the opening of the 83rd weeklong meeting of the presbytery at Tafo in the Kumasi metropolis on Saturday. The meeting, being attended by 126 delegates is under the theme, "That All May Have Life In Fullness".

He said, "if parents are not seen as responsible in the home, then the fullness of life will not be of any value".

Rev Acheampong stressed the need for children and all dependents to see Jesus Christ as the source of fullness of life. The Presbytery Chairman called for the need for moral values like honesty, humility, hard work and respect for the elderly to be inculcated in children.

He emphasised the importance of education as a tool for the development of the nation and asked parents and guardians to see it as their duty and provide their wards their basic needs to enhance teaching and learning in schools.

Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo, regretted the action taken by some opposition parties to demonstrate against the increase in fuel prices by the government.

He appealed to churches to pray unceasingly to God to ensure that peace and stability prevails in the country. Nana Agyen Frempong II, Tafohene, also stressed the need for the people to bury all their differences and gear their efforts towards the development of Ghana.

Mr Osei Duah, a member of the church at Tafo who chaired the function, advised the delegates to use the period meaningfully and deliberate on issues that would help improve on the performances of the church.
