Asamankese (E/R), April 1, GNA - For beating and brutalizing a former lover, Kwadwo Aboagye, a farmer, has been fined two million cedis by the Asamankese Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Aboagye, who pleaded guilty, was also asked by the Court to pay 500,000 cedis to Miss Vera Kyerewaa, the victim, as compensation or go to prison for eight months in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J.F. Idan told the court, presided by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, that Aboagye and Miss Kyerewaaa who were lovers separated four years ago.

On March 10, this year, at about 1500 hours, Kyerewaa, in the company of her husband, Mr Thomas Bobie, visited a friend.

Inspector Idan said on reaching the friend's house, the couple met the accused, who without any provocation, set upon Kyerewaa by kicking her and hitting her with an object.

Kyerewaa was taken to hospital by eyewitnesses and later the case was reported to the police.

Aboagyehe, however, told the court that Kyerewaa was still his girl friend and that he spent a month with her at Anyinam in February this year, adding that he and the woman agreed that he should return on March 6 to spend the Independence holiday.

Kyerewaa, however, denied the allegations and said she was married and even had a child but the accused insisted she was still his lover.
