Former President John Mahama has said that it is too early for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be talking about his 2020 presidential ambitions, ClassFMonline.com has learnt from highly-placed sources.

At a highly classified meeting held between him and minority MPs as well as some party executives including General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, party Chair Kofi Portuphy and stalwart Kofi Attoh near Gold House in Accra, Mr Mahama urged the party and its members to stop arguing about his future political ambition and rather channel their energies into reorganising the NDC and strengthening its base.

Mr Mahama’s comments on his future presidential ambition come days after his family reportedly said he will not run in 2020.

His younger brother, Ibrahim, who spoke to the media a few days ago, said they are advising the ex-president to take a rest from active politics.

“John has given his all in politics to the NDC and Ghana and we think it is just fair that we allow him to rest. We were very supportive and instrumental in convincing him to partner Prof. Mills, and when the time came for him to contest for President; we supported and advised him to go for it…now we have advised him not to make a comeback in 2020,” Ibrahim Mahama said.
