The Spokesperson for the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo, Mr. Mustapha Hamid says the President took into considerations, competence, Regional and Gender balance before nominating his ministers for the vetting and sequent approval by the Appointment Committee of Parliament.

Over the last two days, President Nana Akuffo-Addo has presented to the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honorable Professor Aaron Mike Qcquaye list of his appointees whom he wants to work with in his government as ministers of the state.

On Tuesday, the President named his first 13 names and had Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo , former Finance and Economic Planning Minister as Minister Designate for the Senior Ministry Minister and Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah as a Minister Designate for National Security Ministry.

On Wednesday, the President named another 12 names as Ministers Designate for the various ministries which also had Mr. Ignatius Baafour Awuah, the Sunyani West Member of Parliament (MP) as Minister Designate for Employment and Labour Relations and Ablekuma West MP as Minister Designate for Communications.

Speaking on the SPACE FM MORNING FLIGHT show, Mr. Hamid Mustapha said the President before nominating them, looked out for their qualities, competence, regional and gender balance which is mandatory for the President to do that according to the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

He said the President first of all asked himself those nominees who are also MPs, those who have the qualities he is looking for, and which regions they come from.

Some Members of Parliament from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described the President’s nominees as old wine in the new bottle.

They are saying that, some ministers who served in the erstwhile John Agyekum Kuffour government are those who have resurfaced in the Akuffo Addo led administration.

Reacting to this statement, Mr. Hamid Mustapha said the President want to blend the old experienced Ministers with the new ones so that they young ones can learn and take over from the experienced ones in the nearby future.

He said it is not possible especially because the way the country has deteriorated; you cannot use completely new hands alone to turn things round.

He stated that government is like a football team, where the new and upcoming ones needs to learn guidance and experience from the old ones.

He said the new and fresh ones alone cannot do it.
