Accra, March GNA-The Ghana Police on Thursday commended the Police constable whose effort culminated in the death of two armed robbers and the prevention of further robberies.
A statement signed by Chief Superintendent Ampah Bennin, Director of Public Relations said the Police Administration was impressed by the display of professionalism by a Policewoman in a story carried on front page of Thursday March 31, 05 edition of the Daily Graphic.
The statement said the Police Administration, had therefore referred the issue to the Appointment and Promotion Board to come out with the appropriate recommendation for the IGP to act on accordingly.
The statement said the recent spate of armed robbery had been the focus of attention of the Police in recent times.
" In all the passing-out ceremonies held this year, the Police Administration had continuously drummed the issue of armed robberies into the ears of the recruits."
The statement however regretted that "Journalists go to the extent of publishing the names and stations of the Police Officers involved" in such situations, adding such practice did not help the Police, as it exposed the officers to all sorts of hazards.
" It is regrettable that an Accra-based radio station exposed the name of the Policewoman who carried out the act in an interview on air," and assured its personnel and the general public that while it would reward exemplary performance, it would not hesitate to punish all personnel who contravened the laws of the service.
