Kumasi, Jan 11, GNA - A group of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has kicked against the request by former President John Dramani Mahama to be allowed to keep his official Cantonments residence in Accra as part of his retirement package.

The group made up of past regional officers of the Tertiary Students' Confederacy (TSCON) of the NPP in the Ashanti, appealed to the new government not to grant it.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Convener, Nana Osei Owusu Bempah, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi.

It said if found the move by the former President wrong, adding that, public officials must stop targeting state resources.

The group made reference to a similar request by former President John Agyekum Kufour that was denied by the then National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and wanted to know what had changed.

If it was thought wrong to allow then exiting President Kufuor to go with a bungalow, it could not be right now for ex-President Mahama to continue occupying the official residence.

'We are calling on President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to give true meaning to his belief that national resources are not meant for the enjoyment and pleasure of those who seek to lead.'
