Alavanyo (V/R), March 30, GNA - Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII, Paramount Chief of Alavanyo Traditional Area, has expressed commitment to the peaceful settlement of the protracted Nkonya/Alavanyo land dispute. He expressed optimism about the progress made so far by the Mediation Team and the Joint Consultative Committee to resolve the impasse. Togbega Atakora who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview said time, resources, lives and property had been lost in the over 80 years of conflict and pledged to support all the current peace overtures.

He appealed to all factions in the conflict to remain committed to peace by refraining from acts that could undermine the mediation efforts even under extreme provocation.

Togbega Atakora advised people who were taking advantage of the conflict to enrich themselves to stop the anti-social act since the collective interest of the people affected by the conflict was more important than their parochial interests.

He observed that the conflict had affected the socio-economic activities of the people leading to widespread impoverishment.
