THE People's National Convention (PNC) has chosen a Kumasi-based businessman, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed Isaakah, as its candidate for the forthcoming bye-election at the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region.

According to a spokesman of the party, Dr Somtim Tobiga, the candidate received the nod when his only challenger, Mr Thomas Atigah, stepped down just before the primary and declared his support for Mr Isaakah.

Mr Isaakah was the PNC parliamentary candidate for the former Asokwa East Constituency in both the 1996 and 2000 elections.

According to Dr Tobiga, the Convention People's Party (CPP) had agreed to support the candidature of Mr Isaakah.

He said by this demonstration, the Nkrumaist family had offered the people in Asawase an alternative and, therefore, called on them to give him their mandate on the election day.

“The Nkrumaist family is back to fight for the sovereignty of the country”, he said.

He stated that the PNC would place its resources at the disposal of the candidate to ensure his victory.

The Asawase seat became vacant following the death of the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament, Dr Adamu Mohammed Gibiril, on February 25, 2005.
