Kumasi, March 26, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court has slapped a 10 million-cedi fine on a 57-year-old driver, Charles Kwasi Marfo, for careless driving and negligently causing harm. He will in default serve 10 years in jail. Marfo pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector John Kobina Afful told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that the accused is a driver of a Ford passenger bus with registration number AS 8743 T. He said on February last year, at about 1945 hours, Marfo, who was returning from Accra to Kumasi drove his bus then full of passengers into a parked timber truck at Ampabame near Ejisu killing three of the passengers on the spot.

Four others, who sustained injuries, received treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the driver of the timber truck, Fobi Botchway.
