Eastern Region registers 200,000 people for the NHIS

Koforidua, Mar. 25, GNA-As at the beginning of March, this year, over 200,000 people had registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in all the 17 Districts in the Eastern Region. This was disclosed by Mr. George Kumi-Kyeremeh, Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of the Health Insurance Scheme in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday.

He said Kwahu South District, which also includes the Kwahu West District, had the highest number of registered persons of 61,000 people and had raised over 1.6 billion cedis.

Mr Kumi-Kyeremeh said the Manya Krobo District registered the least number of people of 2,033.

He said already people in six districts in the region had started benefiting from the scheme.

They are Kwahu South and West, Afram Plains, Kwaebibirem, Asuogyaman and Akuapem North.

Mr Kumi-Kyeremeh said three more districts were also expected to start implementing their benefit packages by April with the rest expected to start their benefit packages by June , this year.
