Manfo (Ash), March 25, GNA - Tarring of the 24-kilometre Akwasiase-Asuhyiae road in the Ahafo-Ano North District in the Ashanti Region is to begin soon.

The five billion cedis' project being funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) has been awarded to M/S Galant Ghana Limited and will be completed in January 2006.

Speaking at the first monthly site meeting at Manfo on Thursday, Mr Geofrey Kojo Klu, representative of OWA Consult, the consulting engineers, said 2.7-kilometre stretch of the road covering Akwasiase, Manfo, Dwaaho and Asuhyiae would be tarred under the first phase while the rest of the road would be gravelled.

Nana Kwame Owusu Ntim, the Omanhene of Manfo Traditional Area, thanked the government and DFID and assured the contractor and the consultant of the people's co-operation to ensure early completion of the project.

He appealed to the government and the funding agency to provide additional resources for the entire 24-kilometres to be tarred. Mr Akwasi Adu-Poku, the acting District Chief Executive, advised the consultant to ensure that the contractor mobilises enough equipment and skilled labour for the early completion of the project.
