Accra, Dec. 8, GNA - The Women's Situation Room, Ghana, (WSR) has called on political parties to remain calm as we await the declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The WSR, at a press conference organised in Accra on Thursday, said the EC must be allowed to execute its official mandate without any interference from the public.

The women think tank urged the youth and political party sympathizers to remain committed to the electoral process so as to ensure and sustain peace of the country.

The group, which consists of eminent Ghanaian women and public opinion leaders, together with their international counterparts, said it had championed prudent initiatives to ensure that peace and tranquility prevails in this year's election.

Prof Akua Kuenyehia, a member of the group, urged the public to maintain the level of peace demonstrated throughout the election exercise which began on Wednesday (December 07).

She said the country was in a critical political period and this required that all stakeholders including political think tanks to join hands to drum the message of peace into the ears of the public.

The WSR also congratulated all voters for the peaceful exercise of their franchise and called on all to put Ghana first in all their activities.
