Parliament approves 20 nominees

Accra, March 15, GNA - Parliament on Tuesday unanimously approved 20 nominees for deputy ministerial positions for ministries and regions. They include Mr Joe Ghartey, Deputy Attorney-General; Dr (Mrs) Gladys Ashitey, Deputy Minister for Health; Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning; Mrs Angelina Baiden-Amissah, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports; Mr William Ofori Boafo, Deputy Minister of Defence and Mr Kofi Poku-Adusei, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development. Others are Mr Andrews Adjei Yeboah, Deputy Minister of the Lands, Forestry and Mines; Mr Clement Nyivorli Eledi, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture; Ms Anna Nyamekye, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and Dr Nii Okai Hammond, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.
The rest are Mrs Cecilia Dapaah, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing; Mr Moses Dani Baah, Deputy Minister of Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiative; Dr C. Y. Brempong-Yeboah, Deputy Minister of Manpower and Youth; Mr Kwadwo Affram Aseidu, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry; Mr Magnus Opare-Asamoah, Deputy Minister of Road Transport; Mr Steven Asamoah-Boateng, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City; Ms Patricia Appiah-Agyei, Deputy Minister of Ashanti Region; Ms Susan Mensah, Deputy Minister of Eastern Region and George Hikah Benson, Deputy Minister of Upper West Region.
Earlier, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Freddie Blay, who is also the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, moved the motion for the House to approve the nominees.
The nominees appeared before the Committee from March 8 to March 11 and testified on oath about issues pertinent to their previous record of office and the positions for which they had been nominated.
He said where necessary the nominees' reactions were also sought on issues raised in memoranda people submit on them. 15 March 05
