CHRAJ/GNA signs MOU to fight corruption

Accra, Nov. 18, GNA - The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to ensure a successful implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP), as part of efforts to stem the tide of corruption in the country.

Additionally, the partnership is expected to engender greater public understanding of the functions and activities of the Commission, so as to enlist the support of the citizenry in promoting and protecting fundamental human rights and freedoms, as well as administrative justice in Ghana.

At a ceremony to sign the MOU, Mr Richard Quayson, acting CHRAJ Commissioner, expressed his delight at the partnership, stressing that it would go a long way to promote better understanding and appreciation of the Commission's work among members of the public.

Mr Quayson said the fight against corruption, as well as the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms, was a shared responsibility, requiring the support and commitment of all in order to ensure success.

He was, therefore, hopeful that the GNA would provide unbiased reportage to bring clarity to bear on the Commission's work, in order to enlist the support of the public to promote good governance and accountability in the country.

Alhaji Mohammed Nurudeen Issahaq, acting General Manager of GNA, observed that CHRAJ was the foremost institution in the fight against corruption in Ghana, and therefore welcomed the collaboration as a perfect one to help expose some of the ills and move Ghana forward.

He reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to keep the public abreast of the functions and activities of CHRAJ, by not only providing consistent reportage to sensitize the public on corruption and its impact on society and how to address it, but also in the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms of all persons in Ghana.

As part of the partnership, the GNA is expected to develop a group of Regional Managers and Reporters/Stringers equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to join forces with CHRAJ's Regional and District Directors for the projection of intended objectives, as well as provide priority news coverage for CHRAJ's activities across the country.

The MOU was signed by Mr Francis Rex Annan, GNA Director of Administration and witness by Mr Francis Ameyibor, Deputy News Editor and the Project Coordinator, whilst Mrs Comfort Akosua Edu, CHRAJ Head of Public Relations and Communication signed and witness by Mr Richard Ansong Deputy PRO.
