NEW PATRIOTIC Party (NPP), presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has sent a message of condolence to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, following the sudden death of Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem, the Asantehemaa, who is Otumfuo's biological mother.

Nana Akufo-Addo's message was issued on his behalf by his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday.

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo was supported by Samira Bawumia, wife of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the vice presidential candidate of the NPP and other party stalwarts.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem, who was enstooled as Asantehemaa in 1977, joined her ancestors Monday evening at the age of 109.

The queen mother is said to have been in poor health condition for some time now, but the exact cause of her demise is not known to the public.

 NPP Delegation
Mrs Akufo-Addo and Mrs Samira Bawumia were accompanied to the Manhyia Palace by Mr. Frederick Fredua Anto, First Vice Chairman of the NPP; Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo and Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi, Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman.

Mr. Anto urged NPP members in Asanteman to stop all merry-making activities during their campaign rounds, in honour of the departed queen mother.

He described the departure of Nana Afia Kobi as a great loss to Asanteman and Ghana at large, urging the Asantehene to “take heart in these trying moments.”

Mr. Anto gave the assurance that the NPP and its members would play leading roles to ensure a befitting funeral for the deceased Asantehemaa.
