Zoomlion Ghana Limited has disinfected Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abram (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region to rid the place of bedbugs, mosquitoes, flies, snakes, mouse, among others.

The company undertook the four-day exercise after the authorities made an appeal to help control pests and rodents at the prison.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE after the exercise on Monday, the Regional Head of Environment and Sanitation, Gideon Sogbey, stated that Zoomlion would continue to clean the environment and get rid of pests.

The exercise is in three phases; the first phase took place at the prison, the second phase would take place at the Communicable Disease Department at the prison, while the third one is expected to take place at Ankaful Main Prison and annex.

He said well-trained pest control personnel took part in the exercise.

The exercise has coincided with the outbreak of cholera in the Central Region.

Mr Sogbey charged the people to put refuse in containers and stop dumping refuse indiscriminately.

“It very pathetic that people still litter the environment without any remorse after series of public health education conducted,” he said.

The head of environment and sanitation stressed the need for the people in the area to observe good personal hygiene and eat hot food to reduce the outbreak of communicable diseases in the area.

“Wash your hands after visiting the toilets and report any suspected case of cholera to the nearest hospital for treatment,” he added.

The second in-command at Ankaful Prison, Patrick Edzah, commended Zoomlion for the support and appealed to them to supply them with dust bins.

Mr Edzah was hopeful his outfit would cooperate with Zoomlion to sustain the exercise.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Ankaful Prisons, Daniel Machator, disclosed that the prison has 1,600 inmates and called on other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to provide them with drugs and food.
