Accra, March 4,GNA- Problems of the North could best be solved by Northerners themselves, Mr Issa Ketekewu, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing- Designate, said on Friday.

He said problems emanating from chieftaincy; religion and ethnicity were those that blight the image and development of the Northern Region. Mr Ketekewu said these when he appeared before the Parliamentary Appointment Committee on Friday.

On decentralization, he said Ghana could have done better, had the nation given it due attention and resources before 2001. He said a lot of structures were now in place to hasten the pace of decentralisation.

The nominee's assertion on decentralisation attracted a contrary opinion from Mr E.T. Mensah, a Member of the Committee, who said: "Those working on a roof of a building should not criticise those who built the foundation."

Later, the Committee vetted Mr Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry-Designate.

The 45-year-old Lawyer and Businessman, who had lived most of life in Australia, said he had come home to serve his county.

"I think this is the right time to come home," he said
