The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle constituency, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, has cautioned politicians to desist from maligning people in the name of politics.

Zanetor was speaking at a prayer retreat organized by the Young Adult's Fellowship (YAF) at Adabraka Official town Presbyterian Church as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.

The YAF prayer retreat dubbed “Ghana My Motherland” was aimed at bringing people from different political parties and churches to pray purposely for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in December.

In an interview Zanetor lauded the idea behind the programme.

“It has been a very successful programme; the objective was to make sure those participating in the upcoming elections are actually going to pledge peace in the process. As the various leaders in our various parties, we have a responsibility to pave the way and that is what the programme is about,” she said.

“So we came to support to put the elections into the hands of God and it has been successful so far…it's not over yet but what I have witnessed today is very successful,” she added.

She further cautioned fellow politicians to desist from making empty promises and respect the populace.

“We must respect and be truthful to one another in our campaigning and must desist from making false promises to the people. We must also desist from maligning others in the process of being political…I don't think politics should be an excuse to insult other people's reputations…and have a peaceful campaign,” he said.

“We must remember that we are Ghanaians and no matter the outcome of the election results and whatever parties we belong to, we have to show respect and work together as one community,” she added.

The prayer retreat was attended by Philip Addison of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Opare Addo of the Convention People's Party, Nii Noi Nortey, an independent candidate, and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings of the National Democratic Congress.
