Flagbearer of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has said his victory against the Electoral Commission in court today, Friday was in the interest of Ghana’s Democracy.

Dr. Nduom had challenged  his disqualification from the December 7 presidential race by the EC in court demanding his reinstatement.

The court presided over by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour on Friday ordered the EC to allow Dr. Nduom to correct the errors on his nomination forms.

Speaking to the media after the judgment, an elated Nduom explained that he went to court in the interest of Ghana's democracy.

“Everybody should know that we took this action because the situation is beyond me. It is not Papa Kwesi Nduom or the Progressive People's Party, this is a matter that is important for our democracy, development, freedom particularly our human rights and I believe that it is those rights that have been restored by the courts today.”

“I'm very grateful to the judge for understanding the arguments that our lawyers have made. I'm happy for the Progressive People's Party, to all our supporters, and especially for the prayers that they have offered on my behalf,” he added.

Background
Dr. Nduom was disqualified from the presidential race along with  12 other aspirants after anomalies were cited in their nomination forms.

The PPP flagbearer in particular was disqualified by the Electoral Commission because according to the commission, Dr. Nduom’s nomination forms were not properly completed.

But Nduom in his writ among other things sought an order of prohibition to restrain the EC from proceeding with balloting for position of presidential candidates for the 7th December elections until the court case was cleared.
