NCCE urges healthy election campaign

Kumasi, Oct 26, GNA - The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged healthy election campaign devoid of bitter and aggressive rhetoric as the political parties crisscrossed the country to woo voters.

Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, Deputy Director of the Commission in-charge of Operation, said the expectation was that the candidates and their supporters would tell voters about their highpoints and what they would be doing to bring progress - transform their living conditions.

What the people wanted to hear was how the parties would tackle their felt needs if voted in, he added.

He counseled against vilification of political opponents, outright lies and deception and said these were not the right things to do.

He was addressing a day's sensitization workshop held in Kumasi for representatives of the various political parties, civil society organizations, women and youth groups.

The goal was to assist deepen their understanding of the electoral laws and the need to pull together to safeguard the peace.

Mr. Akuamoah reminded all to uphold the political parties' code of conduct and accept to use the appropriate channels to get grievances resolved.

They should step back from anything, likely to create tension and undermine the unity and peace of the nation.

He said given the crucial nature of the coming election, the NCCE was scaling up its collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC) to assist everybody to have better understanding of the electoral process alongside the proper way to thumbprint the ballot paper.

They were focusing more effort on reducing spoilt and rejected ballots in the December 07 election.

Mr. Edmund Premoh, a member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), advised the youth to avoid to be part of any evil agenda to cause confusion, before, during and after the general polls.
