Kumasi, March 1, GNA - The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has started operating. The hospital, as a service provider, is at the moment rendering services to the Atwima and Ejisu-Juaben districts as well as to the members of the Ashanti regional Civil Servants Association in the implementation of the NHIS.

Mr James Darko-Asamoah, Manager of the KATH NHIS, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday. He noted that the success of the scheme depended on how soon the people in the districts and sub-metropolitan areas registered with the scheme. Mr Darko-Asamoah appealed to residents in Kumasi metropolis to embrace the scheme to enable them to receive quality health care.

Dr Joseph Oduro, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Health Services, on his part said the registration in the sub-metropolitan areas has been decentralised to the town and area councils, pharmacy shops and licensed chemical sellers.
