Winneba, Feb. 27, GNA - The Senior Bishop's Deputy of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Right Reverend Dr. Godfred Zormelo, on Saturday advised members of Majority and Minority groups in Parliament to endeavour to uphold all the constitutional guidelines and principles to ensure stability and effective growth of the country's democracy.

According to Rt. Rev. Dr Zormelo, that is the best way Ghana could maintain the concept of good governance, the rule of law, achieve enviable human rights record, a lasting peace and uninterrupted economic progress. The Senior Bishop's Deputy was commenting on the recent developments in Parliament, which attracted a lot of public criticisms, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba.

Right Rev. Dr Zornmelo asked members of parliament to always regard themselves as the 'master key' to the country's socio-economic and political development. Rt. Rev. Dr Zormelo said the issue, which compelled members of the Minority group to refuse to rise to their feet when the Speaker of the House was leaving the chamber after the Finance Minister, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu had read the 2005 budget, should not be allowed to happen in the House again. He expressed the hope that the leader and the entire members of the Minority group would accept the explanation offered by the Speaker of the House and co-operate to ensure the smooth and more efficient deliberations in the interest of democracy.

Rt. Rev. Dr Zormelo said Ghana's democracy has created an excellent image worldwide and must be protected and nurtured further, for generations to come as well for the benefit of other African States. Rt. Rev. Dr Zormelo was expressed the hope that the Speaker of Parliament would not do anything that would make members of the minority group to think that he was reacting to their refusal to vote for him during his election as Speaker.

In another development, Apostle Samuel Ayisi-Larbi, the Founder and Leader of the Power of Christ Ministry International Church, urged the Speaker of Parliament to consider members of the National Assembly as "children of one strong and dynamic family" of which he is the leader.

Speaking to the press at Kasoa, Apostle Ayisi-Larbi said the Speaker should always strive to maintain the central role position he had been playing to ensure successful parliamentary functioning in the country all the time. He assured both the government and the legislature of the Church's desire to offer continuous intensive and faithful prayers to support the good works of all arms of the State to ensure lasting peace, stability and economic advancement of the nation.
