Mason defrauds nurse of 8.7 million cedis

Tema, Feb. 20, GNA - A mason has been granted 20 million cedis bail by the Tema Circuit Court "B" for defrauding a nurse of 8.7 million cedis with the promise of getting her a car from the Tema Habour. Justice Bambil pleaded not guilty and will reappear on March 2, 2005.

Prosecuting, DSP Robert Anyusiya Aganiba told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that sometime in April 2004, the complainant in a conversation with the accused, expressed her desire to acquire a car. He said the accused assured the complainant that he could get her a car through his uncle who is a Customs Officer at the Longroom to facilitate the purchase and therefore, asked her to pay 8.7 million cedis, which she paid to him.

DSP Aganiba said after the accused had taken the money, he started to play some tricks and told a lot of stories, when the complainant began to demand her money, the accused started to played hide and seek. The Complainant then reported the case to the police and he was arrested, and he then paid four million cedis to the police and after investigations, the accused was charged.
