Kuapa Kokoo Trust Fund undertakes development projects

Suhum, Feb. 19, GNA - The Kuapa Kokoo Trust Fund, an affiliate of the Kuapa Kokoo Company, has undertaken a number of development projects costing 1.426 billion cedis for cocoa farming communities during the 2003/04 cocoa season. The projects included the drilling of 13 boreholes and hand-dug wells, provision of 14 corn mills and the construction of two day care centers at Apedwa and Asawinso in the Eastern and Western regions.

The president of the Kuapa Kokoo Union, Nana Kojo Appiah-Kubi, who announced this at the just ended 11th Delegates Conference and Annual General Meting at Suhum, said the Trust had provided 400 million cedis to the company to construct a warehouse at the Tema Port to store cocoa stocks meant for the Fair Trade market.

He said in its five-year strategic plan to increase its number of projects, the Trust had voted over 8.6 billion cedis to provide 150 wells, 50 corn mills, five Aqua Privies toilets, 5 school blocks, 10 cassava farms in support of the Presidential Special Initiatives on cassava starch across cocoa growing areas in the country.

Nana Appiah-Kubi said 3.08 billion cedis would also be spent on the Trust Development Projects involving farmers education and training, bonus, means of transport, support to the Union and investment during the 2004/05 cocoa season. He said over the past four years, the Cadbury Ghana Limited had channeled 197 water supply projects through the Trust for farming communities in the Western and Eastern regions.
