Wa, February 18, GNA - Solar panels estimated at 300 million cedis and installed in some health centres and clinics in the Jirapa and Wechiau districts of the Upper West Region have been stolen by thieves over the past few weeks.

This has not only affected the storage of drugs but also the provision of potable water to both the staff and inhabitants of the communities that depend on the facility to pump water from boreholes. This was made known by Dr Erasmus Agongo, the Regional Director of Health, at regional departmental heads' maiden interaction with Mr Ambrose Dery, the Regional Minister.

Dr Felix Ahorsu, the acting Medical Director of the Wa Government Hospital, complained that as a result of frequent power cuts, essential medical equipments at the hospital including the hospital's only analyser had been damaged.

Mr Ernest Arthur, the Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority, said 50 kilometres of road awarded on contract for tarring in the region was still lagging far behind schedule.
