Attack on AMA Boss condemned - AFA

Accra, Feb.16, GNA - The Anointed Fellowship Foundation International (AFA), a Christian based NGO in Accra on Wednesday condemned the attack on Mr. Stanley Agyiri Blankson, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, saying the situation was unfortunate.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Kofi Lucas, Founder of AFA Foundation said the unfortunate incident that occurred on Feb.12, 2005 at the Kaneshie market should never be tolerated at all by well-meaning Ghanaians.

It said the recalcitrant driver who is on the run apprehended and made to face the law.

The statement said the foundation is hoping that all other responsible agencies such as civil society groups, NGOs and the media would support the AMA tremendously to make the decongestion exercise a success.

" We believe AMA's intention of organising this exercise is not to deprive people of their economic activities, bully or manhandle any individual but rather, to remove hawkers from our principal streets, pavements and unauthorised places in order to bring sanity and rapid modernisation of the capital city, " the statement said.

The statement further called for pragmatic measures to be put in place to wage a war against pedestrians who use the main streets as footpaths thereby causing vehicular traffic, adding that drivers who pick passengers at unauthorised points should be arrested and prosecuted.
