Traditional rulers urged to be proactive

Twifo-Praso (C/R), Feb 16, GNA - Mr Abraham Odoom, the acting District Chief Executive of Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira, has appealed to chiefs to be proactive and find innovative ways in promoting development in their areas.

At a two-day seminar to build the capacity of participants and to re-orient chieftaincy from the "fetish to the divine authority", he appealed to them to do away with fetish worship.

Fifty participants made up of paramount chiefs, queen mothers and divisional chiefs drawn from the district, attended the seminar organised by the World Vision in conjunction with the district assembly. He said due to the important role chiefs play, it was essential to build their capacities to enable them serve their people with vision. Mr Kofi Anane-Fenin, a lecturer of the University of Cape Coast, advised the participants to do away with the negative sides of culture and develop the positive aspect to enhance development.
