Driver remanded for Defilement

Accra Aug. 31, GNA - A 20-year driver, who is accused of defiling a 10-year old girl more than seven times in the absence of her mother at Mallam, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Enoch Seidu, charged with defilement, pleaded not guilty but was remanded into lawful custody by the court presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Akweley Qauison to reappear on September 14.

The prosecutor Chief Inspector Grace Bandoh told the court that complainant Madam Akua Afriyie is a trader and a mother of the victim and lives at Mallam as the accused.

During the month of June this year, the complainant left home to the market leaving the victim home.

According to prosecution in the absence of the complainant, Seidu sent the victim to go and buy him sachet water and mosquito coil.

When the victim returned the accused asked her to bring it into his room. Siedu succeeded in having sex with the victim and warned her not tell anyone, including her mother.

Prosecution said anytime the victim's mother was away accused had sex with the victim for more than seven times until the victim got sick.

Chief Inspector Bandoh when the victim mother quizzed her she informed her about the ordeal that the accused had been taking her through.

Complainant confronted the accused and he admitted the act and pleaded with her for an amicable settlement.

Prosecution said the accused requested that the victim be sent to the hospital for examination out of which GH¢ 1,200 cedis was incurred as cost of medical expenses.

Seidu paid GH¢ 500 cedis and promised to pay the rest later but he failed.

The matter was reported to the Police and another medical form was issued and a report on the victim indicated that her hymen had been broken.
