Accra, Aug. 19, GNA - Mr Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, a Senior Journalist with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, has won a Chevening scholarship to pursue MA in International Journalism at Brunel University in the UK.

He would be joining global Chevening scholars, who would be studying for the 2016/2017 academic year.

He is an Ambassador Extraordinaire of Ghana Prisons, an award conferred on President John Dramani Mahama.

The award was in recognition of his contribution to the project: 'The Deplorable Conditions in Ghana's Prisons.'

Mr Kwarteng has successfully founded the Crime Check Foundation, crime prevention NGO as well as the National Stop Crime Campaign in Ghana.

He also introduced on Ghana Television, the first ever Prison Series, "Time with the Prisoner" - a one-on-one interview where prisoners share their experiences and advise the youth to desist from crime.

He works within the penal system advocating for individuals, who find themselves imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.

By supporting those innocently convicted through legal counsel and educating them on their rights, many continue to gain their freedom.

He has also served as a consultant for the International Labour Organisation in 2014 due to his interest in Child Labour reporting.
