Obinim Introduces Sharia Law In His church
19.08.2016 LISTEN

By Emmanuel Akli
Bishop Daniel Obinim, the controversial man of God and Founder of the International God's Way Church, who has been in the news for various reasons over the past two years, has done it again.

This time, not only has the so called “man of God” introduced Sharia Law into the Ghanaian Jurisprudence, but has actually defied Jesus Christ, the man he claims to be following, admonition in Mathew 7:1 that “Do not judge, or you too will be judged”.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Bishop Daniel Obinim, who operates mainly in Accra and Kumasi, was seen beating a teenage girl and her boyfriend with a belt he had fastened around his hands, right in front of his congregation.

The crime of the two was that they had sexual intercourse, resulting in a pregnancy. The shirt of the boy was removed before the 'Man of God' started administering the punishment on him.

The boy was forced to sit down, whilst several strokes of the belt struck the upper parts of his body.

Whilst the beatings were ongoing, Obinim kept on asking the boy whether the girl had not told him that she was pregnant and whether he (the boy) had money to look after the girl and her pregnancy.

“A fool, a fool, do you have money to look after her, you little boy –a school boy, your father is even dead, but look at what you have done, can you look after her,” Obinim yelled at the boy, whilst beating him.

In the case of the girl, though she was spared the trauma of removing her dress, she could not bear the pains, as Daniel Obinim whipped her with the belt which struck almost all parts of her outer body, after she was dragged from the congregation and matched to the front of the altar.

When the girl managed to climb the altar, where some of Obinim's pastors were sitting, including a woman for succor, The Bishop instructed his junior pastor to grab, slap and throw her back to the torture chamber.

The junior pastor grotesquely grabbed the girl as instructed and threw her back to her tormentor.  When the beatings intensified, the girl again ran to the lady sitting at the altar for help, but when she finally got up and attempted to intervene, the beating Bishop warned her to stay away, which she (Lady at altar) obliged.

“You are a fool, you are a fool. When you started learning trade, it is not even up to three months, but look at what you have done”, Obinim shouted at her. It was also discovered that neither the congregation nor pastors of the church made any attempt to save the 'couple' from the hands of Obinim.

The junior pastors were rather interested in broadcasting the noise accompanying their writhing to the congregation, by pushing microphones towards their mouths.

The Gender Ministry, led by a gender activist, Nana Oye Lithur, failed to pick calls from The Chronicle, when this reporter tried to get her reaction to the incident. Joy FM however reported that her ministry had initiated investigation into the case.

Bishop Obinim has, meanwhile, defended his conduct. Speaking to Joy FM yesterday, he said the boy and girl are staying with him at his apartment.

The boy is a student, whilst the girl is learning a trade. He explained that because he and the wife are always on the move, they took advantage of the situation to have sex, which has resulted in the pregnancy.

Knowing what he had done, Bishop Obinim continued, the boy gave the girl some concoctions to abort the pregnancy.  According to Obinim, in the course of the church service, God revealed the development to him and he decided to punish them in the presence of the congregation.

He quoted the popular bible verse that says, “whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them to justify his action.”
