Offinso South NPP holds non-denominational service

31.01.2005 LISTEN
By GNA

Offinso (Ash), Jan. 31, GNA - A non-denominational service to reconcile the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso South, Mr Kwabena Sarfo, the former MP, Mr Francis Buor and the District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Oduro was held at Offinso on Sunday. Nana Wiafe Ababio, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cylinder manufacturing Company (GCMC), facilitated the service, which was held under the auspices of the Offinso Local Council of Churches. There had been bad blood between the incumbent MP, Mr Sarfo and Mr Buor, the former MP, who was ousted at the 2000 NPP primaries and between Mr Sarfo and the DCE.

Speaking at the function, Mr Buor called for peace and unity in the constituency and pointed out that these were important ingredients for development.

He wondered why there should be enmity between himself and the MP and said instead of fighting among themselves, they should unite and fight poverty, which was the common enemy in the district. Mr Buor asked the people of Offinso not to allow politics to divide them and called for co-operation between the MP and the DCE, the two political personalities responsible for the development of the area so as to hasten the development of not only the constituency but also the whole district.

Mr Sarfo called for forgiveness from all those he might have offended one way or the other and said it had never been his intention to offend anyone.

He said, however, that as a human being, he was fallible and might have offended people in one way or the other and said this was the time to forgive and forget and pledged to work with everybody in the district.

Mr Oduro, the DCE, expressed concern about the "pull him down" attitude at Offinso and described this as most unhealthy for development and asked the people to stop for the development of the district.

Preaching the sermon earlier, the Very Reverend M.E. Pamford, Superintendent Minister of the Methodist Church in-charge of Offinso, noted that intentions were like eggs, which when not hatched get rotten and therefore, called on all political parties with good intentions to contribute positively to nation building.

He also called for the elimination of vindictiveness from the country's body politics.

Nana Wiafe Ababio later presented 25 chairs to the constituency office of the NPP and 10 to the Nasara club. 31 Jan. 05
