Mourners, corpse in freak accident

Sunyani (B/A), Jan 28, GNA - Many mourners, mostly the youth were injured when a truck conveying a corpse to the cemetery for burial on Wednesday was involved in an accident at Fiapre, near Sunyani.

They were sent to the Regional hospital at Sunyani where those in critical condition were admitted.

Those with minor injuries were treated and discharged. The mourners were on their way to bury one Charles Kusi alias Gaba-See, a middle-aged man who was knocked down and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday at Magazine on the Sunyani-Kumasi road.

Mr. Kofi Tabir, one of the victims told GNA that the accident happened at about 1130 hours when the vehicle on reaching the Sunyani-Fiapre roundabout leading to the cemetery over turned as the driver was negotiating a curve.

He said a private vehicle and a taxi carried the victims to the hospital.

The coffin, which fell off from the vehicle got opened due to the impact was put in another vehicle and sent to the cemetery for burial.
