The Myth And The Truth About Life Begins At 40
28.07.2016 LISTEN

Many of us today are always optimistic about the future and make worthy pronouncements about our lives forgetting the implications or the consequences of the actions and decisions we are taking today.

The exasperating and the astounding part is when we are wishing ourselves well but throw the manners that will aid us actualize those wishes to the gutters. Realizing your dreams comes with a lot of responsibilities.

You don’t just sit idle and be fantasizing magnificent things for yourself. You have to get up and start making steps towards the realization or actualization of those dreams. Do not wait until you realize that things are falling apart.

There is a saying that goes like “Life begins at 40”. Many of us use this adage erroneously to our own advantage. Today, most of us live numerous outrageous behaviors hoping that we have enough time ahead of us to make things right and prosper.

The saying “Life begins at 40” does not actually mean, that is the time you have to get serious about life and start leaving a fully responsible life.

Before writing this script, I decided to surf the internet for some people’s definition of the adage. A writer in explaining “life begins at 40” said it implies “By the time you are forty, you have enough experience and skill to do what you want to do with your life.” The writer continued to explain that the maxim is “Often said as an encouragement to those reaching middle age.” It means the maxim is used to inspire folks at Middle Age who obviously might be getting fed up with life despite all efforts to progress in life. This also implies that the adage is often used wrongly and it ends up polluting a lot of people.

With emphasis on middle age; I ask, how long will you continue to deceive yourself with this adage?

Will you continue to waste your youthful days and be hoping to start your life at forty (40)?

You know your age. You know very well you are not getting any younger yet you keep reassuring yourself that life begins at forty (40). You refused to organize things that will secure your future and make it bright. In my opinion “Life begins at 40”; do not in any way expound that you wait till you hit 40 years before you start struggling to make something meaningful out of your life.

The maxim actually implies by forty (40) years, you should be able to work things out and have almost everything in place. For instance, have a good job, be married with kids, work hard and acquire some assets for yourself etc. There are a lot of meaningful things you can do with your life before hitting forty (40) years. Now, when you have all these by forty 40, what is there to suffer or struggle for? This is the time to enjoy your life with your family and that is where the life begins in comfort.

You have to bear in mind that your youthful days are not only meant for pleasure as most of us considered it to be, it is rather the time for us to work hard to secure the future.

Do not also forget that everyone is working on their time zone. Do not also ever compare yourselves to people who begun a successful life at forty 40. Yes! Some people can be that lucky. That never means that you will equally be that lucky. Life really begin at forty 40 years when you have almost everything or almost all the necessities you need in life not when you absolutely have nothing and hoping to start life at forty 40.

I believe by now, you know the myth and the truth about “Life begins at 40”. It is time you shun ensuing the adage thoughtlessly and hope for a better life by forty 40 years and not starting life by forty (40).

The time is now!
