Kwansakrom ADA classrooms turned into sleeping rooms

Agona Kwansakrom (C/R), Jan 20, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Agona Kwansakrom, near Agona Swedru have expressed concern about the use of the classrooms of the Agona District Assembly Primary by some people in the community as their sleeping place in the night.

Mr Whab Adams, Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Kwansakrom Mpontu Festival speaking at the climax of the annual Akwambo festival said some boys slept in the classrooms with their girl friends and defecated on the school compound.

He said the teachers and school children had complained about the situation, adding that, apart from human excreta blood stained clothes were at times found on the floor of the classrooms. Mr Adams said the behaviour of those responsible had become a source of worry to the Chiefs and the people in the town. The Planning Committee Chairman said the Chiefs and people had raised funds to clad the classrooms pavilions at an estimated cost of 45 million cedis to curb the practice.

He said domestic animals also strayed into classrooms during schools hours, which disrupted studies.

Mr Adams said the people had completed a self-help electrification project estimated at 200 million cedis, adding that, plans were at an advanced stage to construct a 50 million-cedi market. Mr John Afari Essel, Secretary of the Committee said that to facilitate the early completion of self-help projects, a development levy of 15,000 cedis and 11.000 per man and women respectively for residents 25,000 cedis and 20,000 cedis respectively for non-residents had been imposed.

He said the people were constructing a culvert on the road linking the Kotokoli-Zongo and Kwansakrom, which joined the Agona Swedru/Awutu Bawjiase trunk road.

Mr Essel appealed to Non-governmental organisations and the Agona District Assembly for support to finish the projects
