Confederation Cup champions,Accra Hearts of Oak, will on Friday present the cup to the Asantehene,Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,at the Manhyia Palace.Hearts beat Kotoko on penalties to win the maiden trophy in Kumasi on January 9.
Club sources in Kumasi said a grand programme has been planned to make the presentation a huge success. High-level management personnel of the club will lead Hearts to the Manhyia Palace.
The source said the club had high respect for the Asantehene and they would demonstrate it on Friday when they present the cup to him.The source recalled when Hearts presented the Africa Champions League trophy they won in 2000 to the Asantehene at Manhyia prior to their Super Cup match against Zamalek at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
It said on that occasion the Otumfuo, in his wisdom, charged the players to beat the Egyptians and bring honour to Ghana.It said the words of encouragement from the Otumfuo propelled them to beat Zamalek 2-0 to win the Super Cup.According to the source, even though the Asantehene is the Life Patron of Hearts' bitterest rivals, Asante Kotoko, he had proved to be "the father" of all clubs in Ghana, which is something all others must emulate.
After the presentation of the cup to the Asantehene, the team will parade the cup through the streets of Kumasi before they encounter King Faisal on Saturday in the Coca Cola Top Four match.
