Bekwai (Ash), Jan 17, GNA - The Bekwai district magistrate court on Friday sentenced a 31-year-old man to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing sheep and fowls.

Anthony Frimpong pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police Chief Inspector E.D. Koranteng told the court, presided over by Mr Adjei Frimpong that the Anwiankwanta police in the Amansie East district of Ashanti on their normal routine inspection of vehicles, stopped Kumasi bound vehicle from Obuasi.

He said, while inspecting the vehicle, the driver tipped the police that a sack containing some animals, which he suspected were stolen was in the vehicle.

Chief Inspector Koranteng said the police therefore, inspected the contents of the sack and found it to contain three dead sheep, four fowls, two ladies panties, various sizes of bowls, a quantity of plantain and children's food flasks.

He said upon enquiries the accused claimed ownership of the sack and when he was asked as to where he got the items in the sack, he confessed that he stole them from Bogobiri, a suburb of Obuasi.

The presiding magistrate ordered the dead animals to be buried under police supervision while an announcement was made in the area where the items were stolen for the owners to come forward and identify them.
