NPP Sacks Krachi West Candidate

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its parliamentary candidate for the Krachi West constituency in the Volta Region.

The Constituency Chairman, Mathias Banyaolaenso who confirmed the issue said he received a letter last week from the National Headquarters indicating that the National Executive Council (NEC) has declined the candidature of Kenneth Bagyisan Gyemah as the party's representative in the upcoming elections.

He added however that the letter did not mention what necessitated the decision by the NEC.

That notwithstanding, he noted that the Parliamentary Candidate had it coming because he seemed to have abandoned his duties and the constituency after he was elected exactly a year ago to lead the party into victory in the constituency.

He alleged that ever since Mr. Gyemah was elected, he has visited the constituency only twice. Out of the two, one was necessitated by a funeral.

He said several pleas and persuasion to urge their parliamentary candidate on had proved futile as he keeps on promising to turn on a new leaf but to no avail.

Mr. Banyaolaenso also lamented that the Parliamentary Candidate did not show interest in the limited registration exercise in the constituency. He said “during the limited registration exercise, he didn't even step in the constituency for even a day.”

.
The Constituency Chairman said since the party threatened to revoke the candidature of parliamentary candidates who excused themselves from the limited registration exercise, they tried severally without success to get Mr. Gyemah to join the monitoring of the exercise.

He indicated that when Mr Gyemah was contacted to find out his inability to join the monitoring of the exercise, he promised to come, but it turned out to be an empty promise.

He also complained that the Parliamentary Candidate has dishonored several funeral invitations involving party members and polling station executives in some communities in the constituency.

He was hopeful that the party will make necessary arrangements to help get a replacement.

Several calls made to the phone of Mr Gyemah proved futile as the calls were not returned. Same applies to the party Regional Chairman and Secretary for their comments.

The constituency is represented by the Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.

Party members of the NPP fear that the lackadaisical attitude of the NPP Candidate could erode the hardwork of constituency executives and polling station executives.
