Akoefe-Avenui, Jan 08, GNA - A couple based in the US are building a 487-million-cedi orphanage and a livestock project at Akoefe-Avenui in the Ho District.

Mr and Mrs Eric Vormanns are providing 4,000 cement blocks and some sheep and cattle to start the project.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark commencement of work on the project on Friday Mr Eric Vormamnns, President Of World Federation For Spiritual Healing in the US, said the idea for the project came to them when they visited a friend in the area.

He said the project would not only give home to orphans who other wise could become wayward but also help raise the income levels of people in the predominantly farming community.

He said when completed by the end of next year, the orphanage would admit orphans including those whose parents died from HIV/Aids. Mr Vormanns urged the chief and people of the area to take good care of the livestock to enable them use the proceeds from the sales of the animals to manage the orphanage.

He commended Togbe Aklamanu Kwadzo Dei, Chief of Akoefe -Avenui, for releasing a 60-acre land for the project.

Mrs Shady Vormanns commended the Rock Foundation in the US for donating 2,000 dollars to support the project.

Togbe Aklamanu expressed his gratitude to the couple for their initiative and assured them that communal labour would be organised to support the constriction of the project.
