Accra, June 9, GNA - Mr Tetteh Portuphy, Senior Meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Kotoka International Airport, has cautioned that Southern Ghana would experience heavy rains a few more times before the end of the rainy season this year.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, the Senior Meteorologist said the Thursday morning's rain-fall was particularly heavy, and was estimated at a 100 millimetres.

Mr Portuphy the down-pour affected Accra and its surrounding areas.

Southern Ghana is currently experiencing its major rainy season though the season is expected to taper off by the end of June, he said.

'We expect only light showers in July, when the season would finally slow off to an end,' he added.

Some parts of Accra experienced heavy flooding this morning as a result of heavy rain fall.

The stretch of road between the Kotoka International Airport and the Shiashie junction was flooded bringing traffic to a stand-still because no one wanted to risk driving through the floods.

Other places that experienced heavy flooding are the Tetteh Quarshie interchange, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the road in front of the Lekmma Hospital at La, and the Fiesta Royal Hotel at Dzorwulu.

The Ghana News Agency witnessed some cars braving through the floods at the airport interchange whilst others had their vehicles stuck.

Other drivers stopped their engines and would not dare the floods but the police and some individuals, guided them to safety. GNA
