Sekondi Jan. 6, GNA - The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs and the Ghana National Commission on Children (GNCC) are to re-activate abandoned Weanimix projects throughout the country this year.

Mr John Hackman, Senior Regional Coordinator of the GNCC in-charge of the Western Region announced this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi on Thursday.

He said the revival of the projects was to make weanimix products available to nursing mothers to prevent malnutrition among children.

Mr Hackman said the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs had realised the importance of weaning products and exclusive breast-feeding in improving the nutritional status of children in the country. He said where necessary, corn mills would be provided for communities for the production of weaning products.

Mr Hackman said the re-activation exercise would be carried out in conjunction with the Ghana Health Service to ensure easy identification of communities with high rate of malnutrition.

He said the GNCC would also organise advocacy programmes on the exercise.
