The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is calling on the private sector to partner with it as it feeds the sector with vibrant human resources needed in the labour market to propel the economic development of the country.

To this end, authorities of the agency have urged private sector employers to fall on it for the services of the critical mass of both skilled and unskilled labour requirements needs for employment.

The Accra Metro Office of YEA has thus been designated as the employment hub of the city where businesses especially the private sector can approach for their human capital labour requirement in order to compliment government efforts at job creation and employment generation.

The office has a data base of energetic young professionals with varied qualifications, training and skills sets that can turn the fortunes of the nation for good if properly harness.

The Accra Metro Director of the Youth Employment Agency, Mr Ephraim Nii Tan Sackey disclosed these in an interview with the Business Day in Accra.

According to him, one of the greatest challenges facing employers in the hiring process is finding the right candidate effectively and in a time sensitive manner at a less cost.

The agency he noted is therefore well positioned with the right human capital to assist such employers in getting a pool of employees to select from.

Mr Sackey appealed to private sector players to help address the problem of unemployment in the city by directly employing young people from the agency instead of poaching employees from other companies.

He challenged potential employers in the city and beyond to fall on the Metro Office for data of talented YEA applicants who could add value to their businesses in the long term.

“One way to solve the problem is for the private sector to see the solution for youth unemployment as a social responsibility where they will fall on the YEA office for data of young men and women who exhibit demonstrated potential but who have gaps in work readiness, and complimentarily to the efforts of YEA, put them through an intensive bridging program that helps them cultivate the skills and personal development needed for success in the workplace”.

The Accra Metro YEA Boss called on all stakeholders especially government and the private sector to address the unemployment menace of the country.

“We must remember that youth unemployment is not only a problem of the government. The time has come for the private sector to voluntarily, join hands with the agency for us to leverage our comparative advantages in addressing the menace of youth unemployment”.

He urged applicants who submitted their registration receipts to the Accra Metro Agency and preffer to work with a private company to forward their CVs to [email protected] with their YEA number as subject in order to make their information available for the private sector employers who may need their services.

The Accra Metro Office of the YEA is located inside the PWD yard, near the Tema Station in Accra.
