The bad blood between the founder and former flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party(GFP) Maame Akua Donkor, and other executives of the party seems unending after the leadership of the party announced closure of nominations for the presidential slot.

The former flagbearer and political satire looks set to miss out on the party's presidential candidate slot following her refusal to meet the deadline for the payment of a GH 15,000 cedis fee meant for the flagbearership.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Agyenim Boateng, announced coming Sunday, June 5, as the date for the party's national congress scheduled to take place at the Centre For National Culture in Kumasi for the selection of a presidential candidate to lead the GFP for the 2016 elections.

However, consciously missing from the list of potential candidates is the former flagbearer, Maame Akua Donkor, whom party authorities claim, could not honour the filing fees at the close of nominations.

According to the General Secretary of the party, three candidates at the time nominations closed had filed to contest for the presidential slot on Sunday.

They include Mr. Kwame Boadu, Mr. Donkor Owusu and Frank Kofi Yeboah, who have all declared their intentions to contest in the upcoming congress.

Though the statement was evasive on the future role of its former failed presidential candidate, Akua Donkor, Mr. Agyenim Boateng disclosed that an official letter had been sent to her reminding her of the upcoming event.

According to him, Mad. Akua Donkor refused to respond to several letters requesting her to make her intentions known as far as the flagbearership position was concerned but "all felt on deaf ears".

In one of such letters copy of which has been made available to modernghana.com, the national executives stated "the entire National Executives of our party, GFP, have the honour to officially write to notify you that the executive committee of the party after series of meetings, has resolved to organize our national delegates' congress which is scheduled to take place on June 5, 2016,"

The letter added that "As our former flagbearer we deem it expedient to kindly invite you to come and pick a presidential nomination form to enable the party re-elect you into office as 2016 flagbearer of our party. Be informed that the cost of the presidential nomination form is GH 15,000.00 cedis,".

But the party's Chief Scribe stated that Mad. Akua Donkor refused to respond to the letter, adding that the party did not have the luxury of time and therefore decided to move forward without their former candidate.

He explained that the party needed to fast-track its preparations towards the November polls in order to meet the EC deadline for the submission of candidates.

"We don't want what happened to us four years ago to happen again; we can't sit down and wait for Mad. Akua Donkor, GFP has grown past the days when she was the only one calling the short, some of us have invested huge funds and we won't allow things to go haywire," Mr. Agyenim insisted.
