Accra, June 1, GNA - Mantrac Ghana Limited says it is investing $40 million to build a Cat Engine Centre to support Ghana and other countries in the West Africa sub-region.

The Managing Director of Mantrac Ghana Mr Emad Adeeb said the investment would help to position the company as a major player in the mining and the oil and gas sectors.

He said the project is on a 26- acre land out of which 10,000 square metres would constitute the repair Centre while a warehouse would occupy 5,000 square metres.

He said the projects are expected to be completed by close of 2016.

Mr Adeeb made the announcement in Accra during the Second CAT Road Construction Solutions Seminar on the theme: 'Complete Solutions.'

The day's seminar was organised by Mantrac Ghana, the sole authorized dealer for Caterpillar Products in Ghana with endorsement from Road Contractors Association of Ghana and the Progressive Contractors Association, the two major bodies in the industry.

It brought together stakeholders in the road construction industry.

He said Mantrac Ghana, is a member of the Mantrac Group, which holds Caterpillar dealership in more than nine countries across three continents; stating that 'in Ghana we have been in the forefront of supplying Cat Construction and Mining equipment for over 75 years'.

He recounted that the Ghana's 2016 budget had a major component for infrastructural development, which includes the major roads construction projects like the Cocoa Roads and many others.

He said: 'As marketing leaders we cannot sit and fold our arms when we have all the expertise to support contractors, hence the seminar.

'In today's competitive world of construction, contractors are facing a lot of challenges to maximise their productivity and lower their operating cost.'

'New technologies in machinery and production can significantly improve your bottom line profitability and your projects' overall success.'

Mr Adeeb explained that the seminar is timely and relevant as participants would be introduced to the latest machinery for the road construction industry in addition to the upgraded technology available in today's market place.

He said amongst a host of machines are the CAT motor graders, hydraulic excavators, dozers and loaders.

He said: 'Our experience has thought us that Road Contractors needs more than great machines, and at Mantrac we go a step further to create customer engagement sessions, provide flexible financial support to our customers through Stanbic Bank, after sales support, warranties and machines in flexible packages'.

'We provide 3,600 solutions, delivering from every angle to meet the customers demand,' he added.

He said Mantrac Ghana over the years had been able to offer customised equipment to the growth of the industry.

'We currently sell new machines, rental and Cat Certified Used Machines aside the mining equipment, forklifts and the legendary caterpillar and Olympian brand of generating sets,' he said.

Mr Isaac Adjei Mensah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways said about 80 per cent of local contractors were unable to meet the completion dates of projects given to them.

He attributed the trend to the inability of some local contractors to acquire high grade equipment because of high cost and terms of payment, which are usually beyond their reach.

'Furthermore, there is also currently no plausible and reliable plant hire system to support the industry,' Mr Adjei Mensah said.

Mr Adjei Mensah hailed Mantrac Ghana for maintaining its dominance in dealing in earthmoving and construction equipment in the country for than 78 years.

He, however, appealed to Mantrac Ghana to arrange for flexible terms of payment to enable the road contractors to own construction equipment and improve on their delivery.

Mr Adjei urged the company to strengthen its presence nationwide and continuously improve on its after sales services to ensure that contractors who buy the products benefit from its rich experience and expertise.
