New Edubiase (Ash), Dec 29, GNA - Mr J.K. Onyina, Adansi South District Director of Education, has asked parents and guardians not to consider the education of their girls as an option. Girl education, he said, should be recognised as an important part of the life of their girl children.

Speaking at a three-day workshop on girl-child education organised by the Girl's Education Department of the District Education Directorate at New Edubiase, he expressed regret that many parents considered girl-child education as an option and would rather send boys to school if they had to make a choice due to financial constraints.

Mr Onyina said girls also had the constitutional right to enjoy education and reminded parents to send their daughters to school. He appealed to parents to pay much more attention to the education of their daughters by providing them with all their needs so that unscrupulous men would not lure them with money into early sex.

Mr Onyina, even though expressed satisfaction with the enrolment of the girls in schools in the district, said there was still more room for improvement and urged the girl-child education co-ordinators to embark on house-to-house counselling to enlighten parents on the need to send their daughters to school.
